Don Cayo named inaugural Bill Good Award recipient
VANCOUVER, Oct. 22, 2015 /CNW/ - The Jack Webster Foundation today announced that The Vancouver Sun columnist Don Cayo will receive the inaugural Bill Good Award at the 29th Annual Jack Webster Awards Dinner on November 4, 2015.
The dinner, featuring Globe and Mail columnist Jeffrey Simpson, will also honour finalists of the 2015 Webster awards in 13 news categories.
This year's Bill Good Award winner enriched BC's journalism community by sharing his decades of experience with young reporters as founder and leader of the Jack Webster Foundation Seeing the World Through New Eyes Program from 2005 to 2010.
"Don mentored 25 new BC journalists on a series of unforgettable assignments across the developing world," said JWF Co-Chair Ernest Yee.
"Don's commitment to bringing a global view to BC news reporting has made a great impact on the next generation of journalists," said Co-Chair Scott Macrae.
The Jack Webster Foundation was established in 1986 to recognize excellence in British Columbia journalism in honour of legendary BC reporter Jack Webster. The Bill Good Award was announced in 2014 to honour Good on his retirement from 50 years of broadcast journalism at CKNW, CTV BC, BCTV and CBC. The award honours a BC journalist, broadcaster, builder or educator who makes a significant contribution to the field of journalism or the community at large.
"I am thrilled to have the first award in my name go to an outstanding journalist who's done so much to quietly mentor young journalists," said Bill Good, a 2009 recipient of the JWF's Bruce Hutchison Lifetime Achievement Award.
The 29(th) Annual Jack Webster Awards Dinner will be held November 4th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Vancouver. Tickets are $175.00 per person and can be reserved at jackwebster.com/dinner or by calling 604-261-6184.
The work of the Foundation is made possible by the generous sponsorship of BCMEA, CN, Fortis BC, HSBC Bank Canada, Labatt Breweries, Port Metro Vancouver, Resource Works, and TELUS.
Our thanks to CNW Group for sponsoring this announcement.
