Denis O'Hayer Named As New Host Of Morning Edition
JIM BURRESS BECOMES NEW CO-HOST OF CLOSER LOOK
ATLANTA, Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- WABE 90.1 is pleased to announce Denis O'Hayer as the new host for its flagship program Morning Edition beginning Monday, November 2. Jim Burress will join Rose Scott as co-host of WABE's midday program Closer Look.
WABE's Morning Edition is one of the most listened-to programs in Atlanta during morning drive time. "Denis O'Hayer is one of the hardest working and most effective journalists that I have ever known. We are so pleased that he is taking on this new assignment and bringing his insight and depth of experience to our signature morning show," says Wonya Lucas, PBA's President and CEO.
Denis is one of the most respected journalists in Georgia. He was recently named to the Atlanta Press Club Hall of Fame and was The Georgia Association of Broadcasters' 2014 Broadcaster of the Year. Denis joined WABE in January 2009 as host of All Things Considered and Marketplace. Prior to that, Denis covered local affairs, politics and government for eleven years as a political reporter and public affairs program host for WXIA/11Alive.
Denis has a long history with Public Broadcasting Atlanta. He started as a pledge drive volunteer and host at PBA30 in 1978. Eventually, he began hosting PBA30 specials on subjects ranging from the environment to the conflict in the Middle East. In 2012, he and Rose Scott won a regional Edward R. Murrow award for "How to Stop the Candy Shop," a PBA30 special on the fight against child sex trafficking in Atlanta.
Denis began his career in radio in Connecticut at WGCH-AM (Greenwich) followed by WELI-AM (New Haven). In 1978, he moved to Atlanta to accept a position with WGST-AM/FM where he worked at the station for more than 19 years in a variety of roles.
Denis takes over from Morning Edition host Steve Goss, who retired September 4 after more than 35 years on Atlanta radio. John Haas, WABE's news director, says Denis was a logical replacement. "Denis' knowledge of Atlanta and the state is astounding. He's like a walking encyclopedia of state and city facts. Denis will use that experience to help listeners better understand our city. He'll bring gravitas and a wry sense of humor to the morning."
Listeners can join Denis O'Hayer starting on Monday, November 2(nd) from 5-10am at WABE 90.1FM, streaming online at WABE/90.1-1 at WABE.org, using the WABE mobile app on a smart phone or with an HD Radio. Follow Denis on Twitter @denisohayer.
