Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Champions More Balanced Media Images To Help Save Minority Communities and Youth Lives
WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "Balancing Our Media Images, Saving Our Communities," a forum that will provide solutions for remedying the impact of harmful media images on minority communities, is being held on Sept. 16 while the Congressional Black Caucus convenes for its 45(th) Annual Legislative Conference. The forum is hosted by leading African American service organization Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and begins at 6 p.m. at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel.
Guest panelists include Clare Breshanan, Program Director, She Should Run; Connie Frazier Cannon, Chief Operating Officer, American Advertising Federation; Dr. Syleecia Thompson, President, DYG Management Group; Professor, Berkeley College; and Shari' Nycole Welton, "News One Now" Producer, TVOne. Mary Breaux Wright, Zeta International President is moderating the discussion.
"We are more than entertainment and tragedy. As mentors to hundreds of young women and girls of color, Zeta has a genuine interest in creating greater balance in the type of images the world is shown of people of color," says Wright. "By working with community and industry stakeholders to protect our youth from the harmful images, we have the opportunity to increase self esteem, future career prospects among our youth - and even save lives," she adds.
The forum follows a series of television watch parties hosted by Zeta and the American Advertising Federation in April, and an Admerica 2015 panel discussion, "Color, Content and Cash," in which Zeta members participated alongside television and advertising executives.
