PRINCETON, N.J., Sept. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- To celebrate the United Nations' International Day of Peace on September 21, thousands of families with young children around the globe will participate in a livestream event produced by Music Together, an international, award-winning leader in early childhood music education.
The livestream will run for 10 hours, 12:00 AM to 10:00 PM Eastern Time at www.musictogether.com/peaceday2015. It will feature young children and their families singing the peace song "May All Children" in over 30 locations around the globe, including New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, China, Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Ireland, England, Bermuda, and the United States. Each group will sing live at 4:00 PM local time in their time zone, creating an ongoing live presentation of the song in different cultures.
According to Susan Darrow, CEO of Music Together, "We feel deeply aligned with the UN's mission for the International Day of Peace and wanted to illustrate how the power of music and song can link all cultures and transcend our differences. Music brings people together no matter where they live or what they believe, and this international 'chorus' we are creating with a powerful song about peace is a great reminder on an important day."
"May All Children" was written by Kenneth K. Guilmartin, Founder/Artistic Director of Music Together, who composed the song in 1986 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of UNICEF. He has since committed to donate all proceeds from the song's royalties to UNICEF. Guilmartin explains, "I wanted to write a song that would touch families all over the world with its simple, heartfelt wish that all children--that everyone--should live in peace. 'May All Children' is a wish for world peace, and has been sung millions of times in Music Together classes, choruses, and schools. I am so proud of this initiative to create this global livestream of families singing this song on the International Day of Peace, giving everyone a chance to witness the power of music."
Throughout the 4:00 PM hour local time, dozens of families, including young children, will be gathered and led by their local Music Together director to sing the two-minute song live. Full list of locations at www.musictogether.com/peaceday2015.

First offered to the public in 1987, the Music Together curriculum, coauthored by Kenneth K. Guilmartin and Dr. Lili Levinowitz, is based on the recognition that all children are musical. All children can learn to sing in tune, move with accurate rhythm, and participate with confidence in the music of our culture, provided that their early environment supports such learning. Music Together offers programs for families, schools, at-risk populations, and children with special needs in over 2,500 communities in 41 countries. The company is passionately committed to bringing children and their caregivers closer through shared music-making and helping people discover the joy--and educational value--of early music experiences.
