TENERIFE, Canary Islands, September 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

- The theoretical physicist returns to the Canary Islands to announce a star panel
of speakers, including twelve Nobel laureates and renowned participants in the space
race, who will headline the international festival from 27 June to 2 July 2016
- The third edition, "Beyond the horizon - A tribute to Stephen Hawking", catapults this
festival as the most ambitious one in science dissemination.
- In the words of Professor Hawking: "Starmus is Spain's unique science festival and
with this next edition confirms its position as a unique debating chamber for the
future of the human race"

Eminent British physicist Stephen Hawking returned to the Canary Islands to present
the third edition of Starmus Festival, the largest international science event to combine

Prof. Hawking revealed the panel of attendees who will pay tribute to him at the next
edition, under the tagline "Beyond the horizon - A tribute to Stephen Hawking". Also on
stage at the press conference were Cristobal de la Rosa, Deputy Minister for Tourism in
the Canary Islands Government; Carlos Alonso, President of the Tenerife Island Government;
Anselmo Pestana, President of La Palma Island Government; Manuel Cendagorta, General
Manager of ITER; and Ivan Lozano, CEO of ATOS Iberia, the latter two being co-sponsors of
the festival.

This edition will bring together no less than twelve Nobel prize-winners which
exemplifies the event's aim of bridging the gap between the general public and the
exciting world of science through these inspiring figures. Another of the highlights will
be the 'Ask Hawking' unique competition which, as in the previous edition, will enable
members of the public to pose questions to the scientist.

Stephen Hawking has expressed enthusiasm for this edition. The festival "will continue
to pursue the aim of bringing together some of the best scientists, musicians and artists
under one roof: the starry sky of the Canary Islands"

Garik Israelian, founder and director of Starmus, said that the festival "carries a
powerful message inspired by the Canary skies, by Mount Teide and the pretty island of La
Palma", and expressed pride that the event's values are "spreading around the planet, from
amateurs through scientists to some of the world's leading artists".
