Mythic Bridge to Sponsor All-Female Filmmaking Workshop

Mythic Bridge to Sponsor All-Female Filmmaking Workshop

NEW YORK, Sept. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mythic Bridge, a nonprofit organization that provides free, hands-on, narrative filmmaking workshops to at-risk youth struggling with emotional, financial or situational hardships, proudly announces it will be hosting its first all-female workshop on September 26 - 27, 2015. The workshop, which will sponsor 24 females aged 13 to 24, will be held in partnership with Windmill Studios in Brooklyn.

Guided by volunteer film professionals serving as "mentors," Mythic Bridge participants gain collaborative, team-building experience, acquire job skills and positive work habits and become adept at personal and professional networking. The program creates a community free from judgement where participants can express themselves and develop a passion for the arts that could open the door to increased opportunity.

Gage Cass Woodle, Executive Director of Mythic Bridge, said, "By conducting a workshop for female participants, which is guided only by female mentors, Mythic Bridge is spearheading a movement toward empowering females in an industry currently characterized by gender disparity. In 2015, women will direct only seven of 113 major motion pictures and represent only 12% of leading roles. However, when a female directs, there is a 21% increase in women working on a narrative film and a 24% increase in women working on documentaries. We believe this workshop sends a message to young females that they can in fact perform and excel in an industry generally dominated by men."

Susan Sarandon, member of Mythic Bridge's Advisory Board, said, "Mythic Bridge helps at-risk youth build confidence, resiliency and practical job skills through offering free, hands-on, weekend workshops to participate in the art of filmmaking. The next workshop is specifically designed for young women - giving them an opportunity to benefit from a dedicated outlet for their burgeoning self-expression. I encourage my fellow film enthusiasts, supporters of growing the numbers of women in film, and all those who want to give at-risk youth a chance, to support Mythic Bridge's campaign."

Mythic Bridge has launched an online campaign to raise funds for this important endeavor.

Supporting Mythic Bridge's campaign is a way to help build a more diverse talent pipeline of creative professionals in the film industry and to empower at-risk youth. To have a hand in supporting this cause, click this link for the campaign:

About Mythic Bridge
It was in the wake of 9/11 that Mythic Bridge founders, Gage Cass Woodle and Donald J. Klein, discovered their calling to nurture and grow the spirit of community around them. During those uncertain times, they opened their homes and their resources to disconnected, disadvantaged teens from Bushwick and Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They believe that lives can be transformed through the telling of personal stories via film and then sharing those with the community. For the past four years, Mythic Bridge has developed a program of narrative filmmaking education through hands-on workshops and mentoring of young adults between the ages of 13 and 21--all of whom are struggling with financial, emotional or situational hardships. Programs culminate in public screenings, which invite the community to celebrate the work of these budding storytellers. To date, Mythic Bridge has produced 30 youth produced short narrative films and 6 Mentor Projects with high production values. The Mentor Projects are designed as a rewards program for the mentors who volunteer their time to teach the participants. For more information, please visit www.MythicBridge.org.
