Director Mamoru Hosoda To Attend Toronto International Film Festival For The International Premiere Of "The Boy And The Beast"
WHO: Mamoru Hosoda is the award winning director behind "The Boy and The
Beast," for which he also wrote the original story and screenplay.
Considered the world's most prominent animation director, Mamoru
Hosoda built this reputation on the commercial success of his three
prior animated feature films: "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time"
(2206), "Summer Wars" (2009) and "Wolf Children" (2011) - all of
which were box office hits. "Wolf Children," for which he also wrote
the original story and screenplay, grossed more than $54 Million
worldwide at the box office.
This will be Mamoru Hosoda's first visit to North America since 2013
when he attended the New York International Children's Film Festival
where his film "Wolf Children" received the coveted Audience Award.
WHAT: "The Boy and The Beast" ("Bakemonono Ko" in Japanese) tells the story
of two worlds - one of humans and the other of beasts. These worlds
become connected when a young homeless boy, wandering the streets of
Shibuya, encounters a beast, Kumatetsu, from Jutengai. Kumatetsu
takes the boy to Jutengai to become his apprentice and names him
Kyuta. In time a bond develops between the two as if father and son.
Later as a young man, Kyuta wanders back to Shibuya and meets a school
girl named Kaede, who ultimately makes him start wondering in which
world he really belongs. Then something significant happens that
involves both the world of humans and the world of beasts. The time
has come for each of them - Kumatetsu, Kyuta and Kaede - to make a
decision.
"The Boy and The Beast" features a star-studded cast of Japan's
leading actors; namely, Koji Yakusho, Aoi Miyazaki, Shota Sometani,
Suzu Hirose, Yo Oizumi, Lily Franky and Masahiko Tsugawa. The running
time is 119 minutes.
The film opened in Japan on July 11, 2015 and topped the box office on
its opening weekend with a gross of $5.4 Million from 457 screens.
