To introduce this new element to the campaign, the network is announcing the following additions:
-- New creative with the characters from the hit series Teen Titan's Go!
and CN Sayin' App with kids modeling healthy friendships to bring
awareness to the issue and motivate children to SPEAK UP.
-- Innovative tools and resources on www.StopBullyingSpeakUp.com to
encourage relationship development and inclusion among children.
-- A partnership with Brad Snyder, Executive Director of the Dion
Initiative for Child Well-Being and Bullying Prevention at Arizona State
University, to consult on this year's program by co-creating resources
for kids, parents and educators that build positive relationships.
-- A national multi-platform ad campaign explaining the importance of
speaking up and fostering positive relationships.
"We are building on our success and commitment to bullying prevention by promoting and modeling healthy relationships and discussing the benefit of inclusion. This became the next natural step in evolving our efforts around Stop Bullying: Speak Up," said Christina Miller, president and general manager of CartoonNetwork, Adult Swim, and Boomerang. "This becomes an important component to our overall campaign and will help continue our SPEAK UP dialog and launch a new conversation to stop bullying before it starts."
Cartoon Network's month long Stop Bullying: Speak Up initiative will kick off with a multi-platform national ad campaign and a SPEAK UP on-air event which began September 28 and continues with a weekend programming block of Teen Titans Go! on Saturday, October 3. Cartoon Network will feature SPEAK UP content across CN Anything, the micro-network app, CN App and social channels throughout the month of October.
Families will also be encouraged to continue take the Stop Bullying: Speak Up Pledge.
"At its core, bullying is a relationship problem," said Brad Snyder Executive Director of the Dion Initiative for Child Well-Being and Bullying Prevention at Arizona State University. "By demonstrating to its viewers the qualities of positive relationships and by teaching them how to form and maintain healthy friendships, Cartoon Network's Stop Bullying: Speak Up campaign is helping to create communities that are bullying-free and, perhaps more importantly, healthier, happier and more successful in the long-term."
Last year, with the support of, Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education and former Attorney General, Eric Holder, the "I SPEAK UP" campaign inspired more than one million people to help fight bullying. By taking the pledge, sharing content or creating a user-generated videos, Stop Bullying: Speak Up brought together the voices of kids, parents, educators, celebrities and government officials to demonstrate that speaking up is one of the most effective ways to help bring a bullying situation to an end.
