Cal State University Stars Shined Brightly at 2015 Emmy® Awards
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Big wins for talented alumni and faculty from the California State University System at the 65th Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy® Awards. Winners Jeffrey Tambor and Lisa Cholodenko found their passion at San Francisco State University. California State University, Los Angeles campus claims winners Ed Horton & Professor Jane McKeever.
Following his 2015 Golden Globe win, Jeffrey Tambor took home a "Lead Actor in a Comedy Series" Emmy for playing Maura Pfefferman on Amazon's Transparent. Tambor dedicated his award to the transgender community, thanking them for "your patience, your courage...and for allowing us to be part of the change." Tambor learned his craft at SFSU saying he had "great teachers -- not only in the Theatre Department -- my Physics teacher was brilliant, my Shakespeare teacher was brilliant. It was just a magical time for me."
Filmmaker Lisa Cholodenko won "Outstanding Directing For A Limited Series, Movie Or A Dramatic Special" for the HBO Miniseries Olive Kitteridge following her Director's Guild Award in February. "At San Francisco State, I learned that passion might get me further than practical pursuits. I'm grateful for the eclectic, transformational education it provided me," Cholodenko said at her 2013 Alumni Hall of Fame induction.
Ed Horton won his Emmy for "Outstanding Technical Direction, Camera Work, Video Control for A Limited Series, Movie or Special" for his work on another awards show--The Oscars. Horton has won Emmys in this category for his work on The 50th Annual Grammy Awards and American Idol. CSULA faculty member Jane McKeever won an Emmy in the category of "Outstanding Sound Editing" for the popular HBO series, Game of Thrones. McKeever won last year in that category for Black Sails on Starz.
