Over 100 conference seminars, Photo Walks and Master Classes to feature the latest techniques and trends for photographers, filmmakers and digital imaging specialists over four days

Attendees to this year's PDN PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo in New York City at the Javits Center (October 21-24) can expect to experience a new and exciting dimension in learning. This year, conference seminars will span a broad spectrum of subjects in eight educational tracks including Lighting, Portraiture, Wedding & Events, Commercial, Editorial & Photojournalism, Filmmaking, Business & Marketing and Post-production.

"A Photographer, an Editor, and the Making of a Personal Project" - Nancy Borowick/James Estrin
Thursday, October 22 - 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Nancy Borowick was busy hustling as a New York City-based freelance photographer when she learned her father had stage-4 pancreatic cancer. Her mother was already in treatment for stage-4 breast cancer so, with that news, she immediately knew that she needed to be with her parents to tell their story. Thus began her long-term personal project, "Cancer Family, Ongoing." The New York Times soon asked to showcase the project, and it was then that everything changed.

In this session, Borowick speaks about her process in developing such a personal project, the lessons she learned, the things she wished she knew along the way and her strategy in taking this project public and into published realms. She will share the stage with James Estrin, New York Times photographer and a founder of the New York Times Lens blog. Attendees will learn how the collaboration between photographer and editor took a project from a work-in-progress to an award-winning, internationally recognized essay.

"Portraits Under Pressure" - Victoria Will
Thursday, October 22 - 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Portrait and commercial photographer Victoria Will discusses her techniques for reading and shaping light for any type of portrait. Accustomed to working under tight time constraints, Victoria will share some of her secrets for working quickly on location or in the studio and talk about how to deal with clients in tricky situations while still getting what you need. "I had an assignment to photograph Justin Bieber. When it was all said and done--58 seconds after it had begun--I had shot him in two lighting setups and had 22 frames to show for it." With a career that began in photojournalism, Victoria has made the transition from editorial to commercial seamlessly and is passionate about sharing her journey and the importance of being your own advocate.
