Rentrak Cross-Platform Entertainment Rankings - August 26, 2015

- Only Rentrak Precisely Measures Movies & TV Everywhere -

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for August 26, 2015.

Tom Cruise and Arnold Schwarzenegger led a star-powered global weekend with a Paramount Pictures one-two punch as "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation" continues to move toward the $500 million worldwide mark and "Terminator: Genisys" takes the number one spot internationally, as it opened in China this past Sunday with a staggering $27.4 million in 25,000 locations.

In North American action, Universal's "Straight Outta Compton" makes it two in a row at the top of the box office cart. The August hit adds another $26.4 million this weekend, as it crossed the $100 million mark on Saturday after just nine days of release. In second place, Paramount's "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation," in its fourth weekend, continues to thrill audiences with $11.5 million, bringing its North American total to nearly $160 million.

On this week's Movies on Demand chart, buddy comedy "Hot Pursuit" starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara tops the chart, while Lionsgate's YA action-adventure "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" moves to the second spot. Fox's Dreamworks Animation release, "Home" lands in third this week.

On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Lionsgate's, "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" now in its third week of release, climbed back up the charts into the number one position. Fox's "Far From The Madding Crowd" debuted strong, landing at the number eight spot. Meanwhile, Cinedigm's "Do You Believe," a movie about a pastor that is shaken by the faith of a street-corner preacher, has some believers who helped it break into the charts, landing in 20th place in its first week of release.

In the latest example of chart déjà vu, our DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales chart this week is a repeat of last week's top two movies with Lionsgate's YA action-adventure "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" at the top again and Dreamworks Animation's family favorite "Home" is easily maintaining second place in its third week on the chart.

This week on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals side of the ledger, Lionsgate's "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" moves to the top and sends last week's number one movie, Warner Bros.' "Get Hard" to the second position.

On our top viewer engagement for broadcast telecasts chart, Telemundo's "El Señor de los Cielos" remains on top this week and proves its never-ending popularity. Telemundo's "Caso cerrado - Edicion especial" takes second and Univison's "Lo imperdonable" lands in third.

Our top viewer engagement for cable telecasts chart gets a political boost this week with Fox News Channel's broadcast of the "Republican Presidential Debate" dominating. TNT's "Major Crimes" takes a rare second place finish and is once again followed this week TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles" and VH1's "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" in fourth.

Finally, on our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" uploaded sketches of the liars' prom dresses to Instagram and the fan-created regram garnered 240k+ interactions. Comedy Central's ever-popular "Key & Peele" posted a link on Facebook that lead you to a video skit called "Rap Album Confessions" and the post gained 4k+ interactions. Finally, NBC's "America's Got Talent" had another golden buzzer performance, which was uploaded to YouTube. Piers Morgan hit the buzzer for a creative dance group as the video gained 1.4M+ views.
