--Only Rentrak Precisely Measures Movies & TV Everywhere--
PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for August 5, 2015.
Paramount's "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation" shows Tom Cruise's global star power is on full tilt as the latest in the two-decades-old franchise rakes in an impressive $121 million this weekend in 41 territories. With 25 markets set to release the movie in the coming weeks, including China on September 8, the film still has a ton of earnings potential on the horizon.
In North American action, this weekend's box office was clearly on "Cruise" control as Paramount's "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation" obliterates all expectations with a $55.5 million debut. Tom Cruise was on a marketing mission over the past couple of weeks and was truly a tireless advocate for the movie, showing up virtually everywhere to get the word out and the results are impressive. This is the second best debut for the franchise, coming in just behind the $57.8 million debut of "Mission: Impossible II."
On this week's Movies on Demand chart, Sony's "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" keeps the peace in first place for the second weekend in a row while Fox's "Kingsman: The Secret Service" remains a mainstay in the video charts with a second place finish. Warner Bros.' Ferrell and Hart prison comedy "Get Hard" jumps to third place after holding the second spot last week.
On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Sony's "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2," shot up the charts to the number one position while Fox's "The Longest Ride," debuts very strong in its first week of release landing at the number two spot. Independent distributor RADiUS-TWC's film, "The Last Five Years," an American musical-comedy-drama starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, enters the charts in the fourteenth position.
On our DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales chart this week, Fox's romantic drama set in the world of professional bull riders, "The Longest Ride," holds on tight to the top spot for the second straight week and is followed by the ubiquitous "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" and Warner Bros.' "Get Hard."
This week on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals side of the ledger, "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" ascends to the top position after a second place finish last week. "Kingsman: The Secret Service" drops to second this week and is followed by Warner Bros.' Liam Neeson action film "Run All Night" in third.
Telemundo's "El Senor de los Cielos" leads on our broadcast telecasts chart followed by Univision's coverage of "Copa de Oro de la CONCACAF 2015" Gold Cup futbol and Telemundo's "Caso cerrado - Edicion especial."
Our top viewer engagement for cable telecasts chart shows TNT's "Major Crimes" once again at the top of the chart as it generates a lot of interest from viewers followed by TNT's "Rizzoli & Isles" and ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars."
Finally, on our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, Disney XD began airing older episodes of "Doctor Who," which helped the show's rankings. On tumblr, fan art of all the doctors had more than 8k+ interactions. A magic dragon and a "Game of Thrones" reference on NBC's "America's Got Talent" helped boost interactions. A tumblr post of the scene had over 42k+ interactions. The popular duo of Steph Curry and his daughter Riley helped ESPNWS's "SportsCenter" interactions this period; a photo of them both posted on Facebook at Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Sports Awards garnered 258k+ interactions.
