Canada's largest broadcasters announce agreement for French-language 2015 Leaders Debate

An opportunity for Canadians across the country to hear from their political leaders.

OTTAWA, Aug. 11, 2015 /CNW/ - Canada's largest broadcasters - Radio-Canada, Télé-Québec, CBC News, CTV News and Global News, in partnership with La Presse - are pleased to announce an agreement for a French-language 2015 Leaders Debate, involving the leaders of the Conservative Party of Canada, the New Democratic Party of Canada, the Liberal Party of Canada, the Bloc Quebecois and the Green Party of Canada.

"The leaders of all the invited political parties expressed a desire to participate in debates in French, and we heard them", said Michel Cormier, Director General of Information at Radio-Canada. "This debate will be unique in its reach from coast to coast and its diversity of voices."

The 2015 French-language Leaders Debate will take place on Thursday, September 24(th) from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (ET) in Radio-Canada's studios in Montreal, Quebec. Anne-Marie Dussault, well known for her experience in hosting leaders' debates, will moderate the debate with questions to be posed by Patrice Roy, a Radio-Canada anchor, and Yves Boisvert, a journalist from La Presse.

Audience share for the 2011 Leaders Debates was over 14 million viewers in English and in French. Once again, the broadcast partners' French-language debate will have unprecedented reach, and be offered across all platforms with closed captioning and simultaneous translation. It will be broadcast across the country on Radio-Canada and Télé-Quebec as well as with English translation on CBC News Network, CTV News Channel, their associated websites and Globalnews.ca. The networks will produce the debate in partnership with La Presse, which will carry it on lapresse.ca. The debate will also be made available for other media outlets.

Discussions to produce an English-language Leaders Debate on October 8 are ongoing.
