COTTONWOOD FALLS, Kan., March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The population of Chase County, Kansas will triple on June 13, 2015 when 7,000 people from around the world come to the Kansas Flint Hills to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of Symphony in the Flint Hills. At this annual sell-out event, participants enjoy day-long activities that culminate in a performance by the Kansas City Symphony set against a 360-degree view of breathtaking rolling landscape at sunset. Singer songwriter Lyle Lovett, who will perform with the Kansas City Symphony this year, shares a passion for the event and the wide open spaces: "The Symphony in the Flint Hills is a spectacular celebration of one of the world's natural wonders. I was privileged to perform in its fifth year, and I'm grateful to be asked back for its Tenth Anniversary. It was Ed Bass who first brought me to his place there to be a part of John Altman's film for PBS, Last Stand of the Tallgrass Prairie, and I've been enchanted with the Flint Hills ever since. Celebrating the Flint Hills is important to its preservation; its preservation is important to the history of our country. There isn't another place like it on Earth."
The Tenth Anniversary Signature Event will take place at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Chase County, Kansas where it debuted in 2006. "Looking back, we had no idea how to put on a concert in the middle of the Flint Hills, or if people would even come," said Beth Harshfield, immediate past chair of the Symphony in the Flint Hills Board. "The event sold out the first year, just as it has every year since. It inspires us to put on a better event every year."
This year's event will showcase the "Grasslands of the World," with presentations and music program highlighting major grazing areas from five continents. Symphony in the Flint Hills is partnering with The Nature Conservancy to feature speakers from around the world.
Tickets for the 2015 Symphony in the Flint Hills Signature Event go on sale at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 7. General admission tickets are $90 for adults and $50 for children under 12. Visit SymphonyInTheFlintHills.org or call 620-273-8955.
