"Resistance" Debuts on iTunes and Amazon
Documentary Explores How Medicine's Miracle Drug Is Turning Into Human Health Nightmare
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Strep throat as a life-threatening illness? No more surgeries due to high risk of infections? Answers to these questions and more will be available today with the release of the ground-breaking documentary "Resistance" on iTunes and Amazon.com.
"Resistance" explores the journey of antibiotics from miracle drug to superbug incubator and presents solutions for averting the coming antibiotic-resistance catastrophe. The film can be rented for $3.99 (standard definition)/$4.99 (high definition) for 24 hours or purchased for $9.99 (standard and high definition) on iTunes and Amazon and other video-on-demand platforms such as Xbox Video and GooglePlay.
The documentary uses a blend of interviews, archival material, animation, and verite footage shot across the U.S. and other parts of the globe to showcase how the modern miracle of mass-produced antibiotics is reaching a potentially catastrophic scenario due to overuse and mismanagement.
Through personal stories and commentary from the world's leading experts, "Resistance" reveals the journey that turned one of the greatest health achievements into one of the greatest threats humanity has ever faced.
"Every day new reports suggest we are losing our battle against antibiotic-resistant superbugs. 'Resistance' pulls back the curtain on how we got here, and provides insights into what we can do so that these life-saving medicines we rely on will work when we really need them," said filmmaker Michael Graziano, Uji Films.
Graziano includes seventeen subjects representing a wide array of perspectives on the issue, including health professionals, government officials, victims of antibiotic-resistant infections and even animal farmers and veterinarians, as 80 percent of the antibiotics sold in the U.S. are used for farm animals.
