Bloomtown.TV to Produce First "Green" Reality Web Series to Boost Flower Sales
Real-life characters from the horticulture industry featured in webisodes
ST. LOUIS, Feb. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As the floral industry braces for what could be another holiday marked by declining sales, two producers from St Louis, Missouri have released the trailer for Bloomtown, a reality web series they believe will help increase sales for the industry, not just for Valentine's day, but overall.
The series, which features funny, fanatical people working in the horticulture business, is a collaborative effort from Stephanie Winslow, President of FlopaK, a woman-owned and operated floral packaging business in St Louis and Content Producer, Erik Light, also based in the Gateway City.
Available at bloomtown.tv and on their YouTube Channel, the series features a variety of colorful characters in the industry, from growers and sellers, designers, supply chain workers, backyard gardeners and end consumers.
"They filmed us three or four times over the season," flower farmer Miranda Duschack says. "They even flew a small drone over the farm to get those great aerial shots."
Duschack along with her partner, Mimo Davis, own Urban Buds, a flower farm located in the inner city of St. Louis where they coax 70 varieties of specialty cut flowers from a small parcel of land. " A lot of farmer-florists style themselves like Martha Stewart, but we show the dirt in the growing, in the fields, with the dogs and the butterflies," Duschack explains.
Urban Buds was one of the operations featured in the Bloomtown trailer which has caught the attention of industry people and enthusiasts from across the country. Executive Producer, Erik Light, says, "This is not your typical 'How to' Gardening series. Bloomtown is character-driven because let's face it, you won't be interested in the HOW if you're not interested in the WHO. We've found some seriously funny and fascinating people working in this industry and we're excited to introduce you to them."
The idea for Bloomtown was born when Winslow, fresh back from a trip to Europe where flowers are much more ingrained in the culture, met up with Light, a family friend, and they started discussing ideas about how to increase flower and plant sales in the U.S. "Europeans buy, grow, give and enjoy plants and flowers on a daily basis," Winslow explains. " As the U.S. begins to trend towards organic, eco-friendly, home-grown options more and more, we believed the time was right to create an online community like Bloomtown where people from every corner of society can access the power of the flower."
Winslow and Light officially launched a Kickstarter campaign during the January 29th Bloomtown premiere party in St Louis where industry insiders, members of the media and even an Alderman from the city walked the green carpet in support of the project. The goal is to raise enough money to produce the first three episodes of the series. In the meantime, Bloomtown is releasing a week of content leading up to Valentine's Day, the Super Bowl of the floral industry.
