Result of International efforts to fight drug abuse and trafficking
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Western United States and The State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan is partnering with one of the leading drug prevention organizations, D.A.R.E., to present an incredible collection of international art to the community of San Francisco. The artworks explore the impacts of substance abuse on the individual, the family and community. The exhibition and reception will take place Friday, February 6(th), at 6p at the Fairmont Hotel.
Azerbaijan hosted the International Conference for Fighting Against Illegal Drug Trafficking in 2012 and as part of their larger goals of drug prevention, they held a cartoon contest with the theme "Say No To Drugs." They received submissions from well-known artists in over 60 countries, representing different languages, religious backgrounds, races and experiences with drug addiction.
"The result is an incredible collection of cartoons and sculptures with very different interpretations and protests against this painful international problem," says Nasimi Aghayev, Consul General of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Western United States. "We are honored to share this artwork with the people of California and hope it will spur valuable discussions about International solutions to a problem we all share in common."
In addition to the art exhibition, the evening will include a concert of Azerbaijani music and a reception with traditional food and drink. The event is being offered free of charge to the community, and it's anticipated that there will be about 500 guests in attendance.
