You get one of the most authentic and thrilling representations of winter culture. After a decade of recognizing the best in winter film, this year's turnout and caliber of talent was the culmination of respect and enthusiasm for life in the mountains and on the snow. Bozeman served as host--and a gracious one at that--to all of our winners and nominees who were not shy about expressing their unanimous approval for the night's festivities. Another crowd favorite and winner was The Little Things, and the talented duo behind the flick was there to accept. "The whole vibe of this award is really awesome, it seems like there is a lot of love behind the festival, a lot of really passionate people that put this on, you can really feel it in the film selection and the winners," said the film's producer and athlete Marie-France Roy. Director Darcy Turenne echoed similar sentiments stating, "I have never heard a louder, more responsive crowd."
The coveted People's Choice award went to Soulryders Productions for Kashmir. Founder Mark Kogelmann discussed why these awards are so meaningful. "It's really unique and something that makes Coldsmoke so special is the drive and passion that everybody here has. You can see it throughout all the work," said Kogelmann.
Jeremy Jones' Higher received the Explorer's Award, which goes to the film that is pushing geographic and personal exploration the furthest. Teton Gravity Research was in attendance to accept the award.
Other gems from the night came from DJ Miss Illaneous and host PaddyO from The-House.com. In addition to loaning Coldsmoke a host for the evening, The-House.com is giving away $100 to the best photo using #ColdSmokeAwards and following & tagging @houseboardshop and @coldsmokefilm.
