Elsevier Celebrates International Year of Light 2015 Through its Collaboration in the Production of Documentary Film: Einstein's Light

AMSTERDAM, January 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

Elsevier [http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/homepage.cws_home ], a world-leading
provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announces
its collaboration in the film production of Einstein's Light
[http://www.imaginary-films.com ] which was first presented yesterday at the Opening
Ceremony of the International Year of Light 2015 (IYL2015
[http://www.light2015.org/Home/About/Latest-News/December2014/Laun-Opening-Ceremony.html ])
held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Einstein's Light explores how scientific imagination and innovation advance knowledge
frontiers featuring Dr. Albert Einstein and Dutch Nobel Laureate Dr. Hendrik Lorentz as
models. The film examines Einstein's discoveries as well as modern examples of scientific
imagination and innovation, highlighting organizations on the front edge of discovery. It
illuminates Einstein's quest to realize his General Theory of Relativity from his miracle
year of 1905 to its finalization amidst the horrors of the First World War, as he used the
properties of light to guide his creative path.

Nickolas Barris, Producer and Director of Einstein's Light, comments: "The symbiotic
relationship between music and science plays a major role throughout the documentary as
this was the dynamic that enabled Einstein to achieve his greatest scientific discoveries.
My idea to have this focus was directly inspired by taking Einstein's own words seriously:
'My discoveries are the result of musical perception.' My main objective in developing
this film is to highlight how imagination fuels the innovation that moves forward the
boundaries of our knowledge frontiers. I hope to inspire audiences across the world to
honor and support the role of science in advancing our society."

Charon Duermeijer, Elsevier Publishing Director Physics, comments: "We are delighted
to be part of the International Year of Light 2015 through our support of this documentary
film. It is a truly unique opportunity to bring and share the work and lives of Lorentz
and Einstein to audiences around the world. It's Elsevier's mission to contribute to
progress in Science and the film highlights especially that aspect. It feels like a
natural connection for us. Einstein's Light explores the process of scientific knowledge
exchange in the past, present, and vision-casting for the future."

Professor John M Dudley, President of the International Year of Light comments:
"Commemorating the Centenary of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity was a foundational
pillar of why we worked to have an International Year of Light in 2015. Einstein's
exploration of the properties of light provided a key pathway for his discovery. We are
absolutely delighted to have Nickolas Barris' film Einstein's Light play a key part
throughout IYL2015 as it explores the themes: light, relativity, and the symbiotic
relationship between science and music."

The complete documentary can be viewed in cinemas across the globe in September 2015.
The trailer was presented yesterday at the Opening Ceremony of the International Year of
Light 2015 (IYL2015), held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
