Billboard.com Redesigns Charts

Charts Feature Revamped Design, Expanded Weekly Length and New Archive Section

NEW YORK, Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Billboard, the leading global destination for charts, news, trends and innovations in music, today launched a new online layout for its entire slate of renowned weekly charts. Billboard.com's new design mirrors the changes applied to the online look of the Hot 100 in October. The update showcases a simplified design and functionality, a single-page scrolling experience, enhanced search optimization and improved audio playback. Billboard.com has also added a new chart archive section (www.billboard.com/archive/charts), which includes a listing of every weekly historical chart, broken out annually, and a weekly summary of No. 1's for each chart.

An added feature to the archives is the expansion of historical weekly charts from 10 positions to a length matching its weekly Billboard.com depth. For the Hot 100, visitors can view the complete weekly charts going back to 1958, while the entire Billboard200 charts can be viewed for each week dating back to 1985.

"For decades, the Billboard charts have been the definitive source for recorded music rankings," said John Amato, co-president of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. "The updated online charts now allow fans to easily access the songs and albums that served as the soundtrack to any moment in time."

The charts' redesign began with a transformation of the Hot 100, seeing 58 percent more visits and generating 91 percent more pageviews since its relaunch. The number of users accessing audio is expected to surpass 3 million, up more than 50 percent, while new visits to the charts have increased 54 percent.

Features of the new online format include "Chart Highlights," summarizing tracks making the biggest moves on the chart; "This Week In...," highlighting the No. 1 song the week of any specific year in chart history, along with corresponding video, photos and articles about the title or artist; and "On This Day in History," allowing users to discover the No. 1 song from any day in the chart's 56-year archives.

In November 2014, Billboard reached 10.7 million monthly unique visitors to its website, and has seen 50 percent year-over-year growth of its online readership.* Billboard regularly secures news-making covers with top artists, including Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Sam Smith, Idina Menzel, Iggy Azalea and Pharrell Williams.
