Sepsis Alliance Launches New Sepsis Tunes(TM) Music-Based Awareness Campaign
Kicking off with the original song, 'I Know,' campaign aims to use the power of music to raise awareness of third-largest killer in U.S.
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sepsis Alliance, North America's largest organization dedicated to the early detection and prevention of sepsis, has launched Sepsis Tunes(TM), a music-based awareness campaign to inform the public about sepsis, the third leading cause of death in the United States.
The song that forms the backbone of the campaign is called "I Know," written and performed by critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Daniel Emmet. Mr. Emmet penned the song to raise awareness, and the campaign will encourage patients, family, friends, and healthcare workers to download, listen, and gift the song. All of the proceeds from the song, which costs US$0.99, will benefit Sepsis Alliance and can be downloaded at SepsisTunes.org.
"'I Know' is a remarkable song that captures the heartache and agony that sepsis causes to hundreds of thousands of individuals every year, and uses the power of music to help increase awareness," said Thomas Heymann, President and Executive Director of Sepsis Alliance. "Encouraging people to 'know the signs' through melody and song represents a quantum leap forward in our awareness efforts, and we are incredibly thankful for and humbled by Daniel's creativity and generosity."
"I Know" is available for immediate download through the iTunes Music Store, and can be not only purchased but also gifted for use by friends and family.
Sometimes called blood poisoning, sepsis is a life-threatening condition that arises when the body's response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs. Sepsis often leads to shock, multiple organ failure and death especially if not recognized early and treated promptly. While impacting over 1.6 million Americans every year, a recent survey found that only 44 percent of American adults have ever heard of Sepsis.
The "I Know" anthem had its world debut live at Sepsis Alliance's Sepsis Heroes awards gala on September 18, 2014.
"As a passionate believer in the power of music, it is my hope that by listening to the song, 'I Know,' people will become much more aware of sepsis," said Mr. Emmet. "I was one of the individuals who did not know about sepsis. Knowing the symptoms and knowing the signs can literally save lives, and I am honored to be a part of this campaign."
