GALVESTON, Texas, Nov. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Moody Gardens officially transformed into the coolest holiday destination in the Southwest on Saturday with the opening of its new attraction, ICE LAND: Ice Sculptures with SpongeBob SquarePants.

Rainy conditions didn't keep the crowds away, as Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, and his band the Hi-Seas performed to celebrate the grand opening of ICE LAND. Santa Claus joined in the festivities, plugging in the more than one million lights to kick off the 13(th) annual Festival of Lights.

"For several years, we've been working to make ICE LAND a reality at Moody Gardens. With the amazing work of Gilbane Building Company, the VYA Ice Carving Team, and the Moody Gardens staff, it's been so much fun watching this come to life.
"Now, with the Festival of Lights and all of our other unique holiday attractions, we believe our guests will see that Moody Gardens is truly the biggest holiday destination in the region."
ICE LAND: Ice Sculptures with SpongeBob SquarePants is the frosty new addition to the Festival of Lights and other holiday attractions this year. As the only holiday ice exhibition on the Gulf Coast, ICE LAND is taking visitors on an icy adventure with the beloved underwater characters from Nickelodeon's hit animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants. Chilled and held at a temperature of nine degrees, guests can witness this vast and magnificent holiday display of 900 tons of towering ice creations.
Admission to the exhibit is $26.95 for adults, $21.95 for seniors and $15.95 for children, and will also be included in a Moody Gardens Value Pass that includes admission to the various Moody Gardens attractions and Festival of Lights for $59.95. A two-day pass is available for $79.95. Courtesy parkas will also be distributed to each guest.
Admission to the Festival of Lights is $8.95, including ice skating admission. Guests can bring their own skates or skate rental is available for $7 with the purchase of a Festival of Lights ticket. Tickets to the Aquarium Pyramid®, Rainforest Pyramid®, MG 3D Theater, 4D Special FX Theater, Colonel Paddlewheel Boat, Ice Age exhibition in the Discovery Museum, and Arctic Ice Slide are available for just $7 each with a Festival ticket. Arctic Ice Slide Passes are $7 for one slide, $20 for 10 slides and $25 for all day extended fun and excitement at one of the Festival's coolest attractions.
ICE LAND and the Festival of Lights are open daily until Jan. 4. ICE LAND is open from noon to 10 p.m., while the Festival of Lights is lit up from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
