Personal Tragedy Of Local Parent Inspires Short Film Musical

Personal Tragedy Of Local Parent Inspires Short Film Musical

To Premiere At The AFI In Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING, Md., Oct. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Writer, artist, and former Adventure Theatre MTC Board Chair, Trish Glowacki, announces the launch of WARNING: Take Only as Directed, a short film based on a personal tragedy that will serve to reduce parent and teen prescription drug abuse, November 5, 2014 at the AFI in Silver Spring. In 2010, an estimated 66,517 emergency department (ED) visits involving nonmedical use of pharmaceuticals were made by adolescents aged 12 to 17, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association (SAMHSA). Behind-the-scenes videos and the film's trailer are available on the Warning YouTube channel.

The film honors Trish's son, Charlie Glowacki, who lost his young life in 2011 due to a drug overdose after being introduced to prescription opioids. Together with local partners and community support, Glowacki hopes to change future prescription practices in parents and young teens with her film presented by Adventure Theatre MTC and local Washington, D.C. artists.

"Prescription drugs are an unsuspecting killer in the home," states Trish Glowacki. "Most teens don't consider them dangerous because of their typical sources. SAMHSA reports in 2012-2013 kids aged 12 or older who used pain relievers non-medically in the past 12 months, 53% got the drug they used most recently from a friend or relative for free. And still others receive them from parents and doctors directly because they're considered 'safe' drugs."

The film's website will provide tools for teachers, parents, and teens as well as a free download of the short film musical once launched.

The press screening of WARNING: Take Only as Directed will be held at 7pm, November 5, 2014 at the AFI in Silver Spring.
