Mayer Hawthorne Headlines Chicago's School Rocks Benefit Concert October 30

School Rocks concerts have raised over $3 million for student scholarships at San Miguel School

CHICAGO, Oct. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Grammy® Award nominated singer and songwriter Mayer Hawthorne will perform at the 8(th) annual School Rocks benefit concert on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Chicago's House of Blues.

100% of the proceeds will provide scholarships and community support to inner-city students at San Miguel School Chicago.

Since 2007, School Rocks concerts have raised over $3 million for student scholarships. Tickets for the School Rocks benefit concert are $150 and available at www.SanMiguelRocks.org or 773-890-0233.

San Miguel's mission is transforming lives through education, commitment, and love. While 97% of San Miguel students are at or below the U.S. poverty rate, San Miguel alumni have a 92% high school graduation rate, well above the national rate of 78%.

School Rocks Celebrity co-chairs include Larry Wert, President, Tribune Broadcasting; Howard Tullman, CEO, 1871; WGN-AM personality Frank Fontana; Chicago rock legends JY Young of Styx; Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick; Jim Peterik of the Ides of March. The committee chair for the benefit concert is Kevin Allodi, CEO, Philo Broadcasting. WGN-AM's Pete McMurray will emcee the event.

During the evening, San Miguel will present its Leadership in Education Award. Past recipients include U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Kathleen and John Buck, Kevin and Nancy Allodi, Mike and Pat Koldyke, Bill Engels, and Mrs. Lina Abraham.
