"McDonald's has sponsored this event in Los Angeles for many years and we are excited to continue providing such an inspirational and educational event for the Asian community," said Clay Paschen, III, McDonald's owner/operator and president of McDonald's Operators Association of Southern California (MOASC). "The workshop provides a unique onsite experience that offers students and parents insights and helpful resources about the college admission process."
McDonald's new Scholar Speaker Series brings in former Ronald McDonald House Charities/Asian Pacific American Students Increasing Achievement (RMHC/ASIA) scholarship recipients Kathy Wang and Udisa Chowdhury to share with the audience their experiences and tips on the scholarship application process, college life and career aspirations. The diverse panel celebrates achievements from Asian Pacific American individuals working in unique fields.
The workshop will feature interactive activities that integrate moments of achievement and messages to inspire the audience to success. The interactive game at the McDonald's booth engages students in a memorable way to learn about the six critical criteria in college admission. In addition to the commonly-known criteria of grades, test scores and class rank, students should not overlook the importance of recommendations, extracurricular involvement and demonstrated interest in the desired school. Students will also have a chance to speak with representatives from various colleges and obtain scholarship information.
MOASC pays tribute to students of Asian and Pacific descent through the RMHC(®)/ASIA program. To apply, high school seniors must submit an essay detailing their leadership skills and community service, along with a letter of recommendation. In addition to the $2,000 scholarship, a $500 honorarium is awarded to the community-based organization of each recipient's choice. Applications will be available beginning October 1, 2014 at www.rmhc.org and the deadline to apply is January 20, 2015.
