In the episode, Dr. Phil McGraw, the host of television's leading daytime talk show, along with Bob Aiken, CEO of Feeding America, and Janet Lamkin, President of Bank of America California and Board Member of the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, discuss the importance of hunger relief and how The Dr. Phil Foundation is supporting this year's Give A Meal program.
For every $1 donated through Give A Meal through December 31, 2014, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will give $2 more, up to $1.5 million - giving donors the opportunity to triple their impact. Donations to local food banks or Feeding America nationally can be made online and more details are available at feedingamerica.org/bankofamerica or bankofamerica.com/give.
In 2003, Dr. McGraw established The Dr. Phil Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports projects benefiting disadvantaged children and families.
"Having Dr. Phil work with us to raise awareness on Give A Meal means that tens of thousands of more people will be exposed to this great program and help us fight hunger," said Bob Aiken, CEO of Feeding America. "Thanks to Dr. Phil and his viewers, we'll be able to provide thousands of meals to families and individuals in need across the country."
Give A Meal had one of its most successful years in 2013, when nearly 150 food banks received funds through the program. Bank of America employees also donated time to Feeding America and its various network members and service providers. More than 11,000 employees donated more than 61,000 volunteer hours last year in support of food access and hunger-related efforts across the country.
The program comes at a critical time when, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, approximately 15 percent of American households, or 1 in 7 people, are struggling with hunger.
