'Until 20' Kickstarter Fans Raise Record Breaking $57,000.00 for an Inspiring Feature Documentary in First 5 Days

HOUSTON, Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- What would you do if you were told this would be the last year of your life? James Ragan was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare and deadly form of cancer, at the age of 13. He was told wouldn't live to see adulthood. Now approaching his 20(th) birthday, James defies the medical odds and pursues a life worth living.

This is the story of Until 20, a feature length documentary produced and directed by award-winning filmmakers Geraldine Moriba and Jamila Paksima. In his own voice, Until 20 follows James through the last year of his life as he grows from a promising young athlete blindsided by disease into a passionate advocate for childhood cancer research.

For Moriba, an original program development executive producer with CNN and the vice president of diversity and inclusion for CNN Worldwide, Until 20 is personal. The five-time Emmy winner faced her own cancer battle after being diagnosed with a sarcoma tumor growing along the radial nerve in her right arm.

"I was told that I had six months to live," she says. "I was a working mom with two young kids and I was scared. I had chemo, radiation and surgery and I survived. Almost 10 years later the doctors still don't know exactly why I survived. There's no cure for this cancer, but I'm still here and able to help raise awareness."

"This is a story about living," says Paksima, a former journalist for NBC News, RFK Journalism and Cine Golden Eagle Award winner and now the executive producer of Paksima Productions. "Most of us take a year for granted. James is inspired to do good things with the time that remains.
