Electus Digital Strikes Distribution Deal With HBO For CollegeHumor's Coffee Town
Debut Feature Film from Leading Comedy Brand CollegeHumor Now Available on HBO and Cinemax
NEW YORK, May 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Electus Digital announced today a licensing deal with HBO for exclusive television distribution of CollegeHumor's Coffee Town. Beginning this month, the film will be available on HBO and Cinemax. The 18-month license period extends through October 2015 and covers the U.S. and territories including Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and Bermuda.
Coffee Town, the debut feature film from leading comedybrandCollegeHumor, was first released in July 2013 across all digital platforms and through a series of limited theatrical engagements. With a trailblazing promotional strategy focused online and targeting fans of CollegeHumor and the movie's cast, the release ignited an industry-wide discussion on the future of film marketing and distribution, while climbing the VOD charts. Through this deal with HBO, CollegeHumor now hopes to extend the reach of Coffee Town to a whole new audience.
"The reaction to Coffee Town has greatly exceeded our expectations," says Ricky Van Veen, co-founder of CollegeHumor and a producer of Coffee Town. "I'm excited for more people to stumble upon it in a different environment and join the movie's fan base."
Coffee Town is the first workplace comedy for the generation that increasingly doesn't have an office. When a 30-something website manager who uses a local cafe as his office learns of plans to convert the space into a bar, he enlists the help of his two best friends to help save his freeloading existence. Directed by Brad Copeland (Arrested Development), the film's all-star comedy cast includes Glenn Howerton (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Steve Little (Eastbound & Down), Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation), Adrianne Palicki (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and Josh Groban (Crazy, Stupid, Love.)
Electus International brokered the deal. In addition to the agreement with HBO in the U.S., Electus International has secured licensing deals for television distribution of Coffee Town with Sky in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and with Canal+ Spain in Spain and Andorra.
