New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy Hosts Network Performing Arts Production Workshop in Conjunction with Internet2 and Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association
THREE-DAY CONFERENCE TO TAKE PLACE AT THE NEW WORLD CENTER APRIL 26-28, 2014
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy, will host and participate in the Network Performing Arts Production Workshop (NPAPW), in conjunction with Internet2 and the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association (TERENA), from April 26-28, 2014 at the New World Center in Miami Beach, FL (500 17th Street).
NPAPW is an annual two-day conference that connects academics, artists, technologists and arts administrators in order to learn about and use cutting-edge distance education technology, discuss artistic endeavors that utilize advanced networking applications, and explore new ways of incorporating visual technology in performances.
As one of the most technologically advanced performance halls in the world, the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center serves as an ideal location for NPAPW, and this year, attendees are invited to attend the New World Symphony's Musicians' Forum on April 27, a concert that features new music leveraging technology.
More than 50 artists, musicians and filmmakers submitted multimedia compositions and short experimental film works for presentation during the workshop. Two pieces will be exhibited as pre-concert installations while three selections, including a telematic performance with remote musicians will form part of the Musicians' Forum program. All works will be presented in HD/4K video format with up to seven discrete channels of audio.
Sessions include The Global Audition Training Project, during which representatives from The Royal Danish Academy of Music, the Shanghai Conservatory, the University for Performing Arts, Vienna, the Cleveland Institute of Music and NWS, explore the cultural differences in the auditioning process around the world facilitated by networking technologies. Additionally, Petr Holub, project leader from CESNET will demonstrate 4K streaming capabilities during the Ultragrid session and professors from Drexel University, University of Miami and Parsons The New School For Design discuss new ways to involve your audience in performances.
After the Musicians' Forum concert on Sunday night, there will be a coordinated dinner/cocktail party in the private, upstairs room of Khong River House (1661 Meridian Ave, Miami Beach, FL), a trendy Thai restaurant off of Lincoln Road.
