Kingsborough's WKRB Named Best Community College Radio Station In The Nation
BROOKLYN, N.Y., April 16, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Kingsborough Community College (KCC) has announced that the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) named WKRB the best community college radio station in the nation at its 74(th) annual conference last month in New York City. The station was also named one of three finalists for "Best Overall College Radio Station". WKRB's program director and senior college lab technician, Elissa Nieves, received the award for "Best Specialty Show" for her program Freestyle Fridays, and students Malcolm Smith and Kenya Fredericks were also finalists in the categories "Best Talk Program" and "Most Creative Program" for their show The Bizzy Mizz Diversion.
"This is not only an honor for all of the hard work that our students do throughout the year at WKRB, but a reflection of the support and dedication of the faculty and administration of KCC. It's what makes this campus one of the best in the nation," said WKRB General Manager Rob Herklotz.
WKRB is KCC's student-operated, FCC licensed radio station. The station can be heard in Brooklyn on 90.3FM or on the internet at www.wkrb.org and http://wkrbapp.kingsborough.edu. WKRB's mission is to serve the campus and the Brooklyn community with programming that is creative, professional and diverse while training students seeking to make broadcasting their career. The station is open to students as an extracurricular club and also operates under the Department of Communications and Performing Arts as a lab for the Media Technology & Management major.
