Balkan Wars, Swedish Reggae, Half-Nude Twerking In The Snow And Trinidadian EDM: The Epic Story Behind Major Lazer Member Jillionaire's "Fresh"
New video conceived in Jamaica by Bengali A$AP Ferg, Beyonce director and cinematographer Shomi Patwary
BOSTON, April 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Touring with globally celebrated artist Diplo in the group Major Lazer has brought Jillionaire across the globe, and it's from this international journey that "Fresh" was born. A notable DJ and producer in his own right, Jillionaire teamed up with Swedish-via-the-Balkans artists Salvatore Ganacci and Sanjin for his anthemic debut "Fresh," already receiving support from the likes of Skrillex and Dillon Francis. It was on a trip to Jamaica to shoot Major Lazer's "Lose Yourself" music video that Jillionaire met KarmaloopTV director Shomi Patwary, who was directing the video after previous work with A$AP Ferg, Lupe Fiasco, and Beyonce.
The two conceived and planned the twerk-heavy video to be shot in NYC featuring the Major Lazer dance team in their signature provocative uniforms, with all clothing styled by flagship street wear retailer Karmaloop.com. A blizzard had left the city in a deep freeze, but this didn't stop the girls. In what must be a first, the dancers showed true dedication and twerked in the snow wearing nothing more than strategically placed spandex.
Salvatore Ganacci fled the war in the Balkans to make music in Sweden, Jillionaire left Trinidad to tour worldwide with Florida's Diplo in EDM-dancehall hybrid Major Lazer, and all left sunny Jamaica to create the coldest twerk filled video ever for a track already proving to be- rightfully so- an international club hit. "Fresh" traveled a long way to arrive here today, and is every bit as epic as its global origin.
Karmaloop.com is the world's leading street wear retailer, providing clothing by Zanerobe, LRG, Married to the Mob and more to style the video for Jillionaire's "Fresh." KarmaloopTV is the media arm of the retailer and a premier destination for style and culture related content. Clients of KarmaloopTV include Beyonce, Diplo, A$AP Rocky, and Robyn, as well as corporate collaborations with Dickies, GM, and many other international brands.
