Thursday March 20th 2014 is first annual worldwide 'Character Day'
SEATTLE, March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bezos Family Foundation is celebrating the release of a new film from award-winning filmmaker Tiffany Shlain, titled 'The Science of Character.' The eight minute film will be premiered online and at hundreds of schools, organizations and other locations around the world on Thursday, March 20(th), 2014.
The premiere of the film is the highlight of the first annual 'Character Day' (#CharacterDay) which will be 24 hours of live events and online conversations highlighting the growth in scientific research showing that character strengths such as optimism, self-control, collaboration and gratitude are not fixed traits but can be nurtured and developed. The film also highlights how character strengths are linked to long term success.
To date, nearly 1000 schools across the United States have signed up to participate in Character Day. Additionally, the United States Department of Education and the State Department are proactively lending their support to Character Day, encouraging individuals and organizations to participate in the wide-range of activities planned.
"We are proud to be supporting and funding this important project as partners. Tiffany Shlain has a gift for conveying complex topics in an entertaining and engaging way. Her new film, 'The Science of Character' is another inspired addition to her 'Let it Ripple: Mobile Films for Global Change' series," said Jackie Bezos, president of the Bezos Family Foundation.
"Through Character Day, hundreds of schools and organizations across the United States and the globe will have access not only to the movie but to other films, games and apps focused on building character. What is truly exciting is that teachers will be provided with free lesson plans, a character strengths survey and resource guide which they can integrate into their day-to-day work with students."
