"American Hustle" Over $250 Million Worldwide As The Film Arrives Today On Blu-ray And DVD
CULVER CITY, Calif., March 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As Columbia Pictures and Annapurna Pictures' hit film American Hustle arrives today on Blu-ray(TM) Combo Pack and DVD, the film has become the biggest worldwide hit in David O. Russell's career, taking in more than $250 million worldwide, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures.
In the coming days, the film will surpass $150 million at the domestic box office. American Hustle also has passed the $100 million threshold internationally, with the film still yet to be released in China, where it will hit theaters in April.
Blu-ray and DVD bonus materials include "The Making of American Hustle," a behind-the-scenes featurette with filmmakers and cast introducing the dazzling world of American Hustle and explaining why they were captivated by the story and its characters. Also included are more than 20 minutes of deleted and extended scenes from the cutting room floor. The film is also now available on digital.
Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, "David O. Russell has not only made one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2013; he has also proven that he is a formidable box office draw. The performance of American Hustle is far beyond all of our wildest dreams. As we launch the home entertainment release today, it's gratifying to look back and note the incredible connection this film made with moviegoers everywhere."
One of the most critically acclaimed films of the year, American Hustle was nominated for 10 Academy Awards® and the winner of three Golden Globe Awards. It was also honored with the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Performance by a Cast, and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Screenplay, and was cited on over 230 top critics' lists.
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most extraordinary scandals of the 1970s, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving's unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell's two previous films, AmericanHustle defies genre to tell a story of love, reinvention, and survival. The film is directed by David O. Russell, written by Eric Warren Singer and David O. Russell, and produced by Charles Roven, Richard Suckle, Megan Ellison, and Jonathan Gordon.
