San Francisco Bay Area Music Artist Kate Targan Releases Debut Album
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Singer-songwriter Kate Targan, whose musical performances and recordings reveal an emotional intensity that feels as unexpected and inevitable as the experience of falling in love, today announces the release of her debut album, "From the Light." A dynamic collection of highly original and finely-crafted songs that travel freely across country, folk, jazz and blues, delivered with a radiant and assured confidence rarely found in a new artist, Kate Targan's "From the Light" was produced by Andy Zenczak at Gadgetbox Studios in Santa Cruz, CA. The full-length album is available for purchase on Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, CDBaby.com, and katetargan.com on Friday, Nov. 8.
Kate Targan, a longtime practitioner of energy healing, wrote many of these songs while walking beneath the towering redwoods near her Northern California home, a place of spiritual inspiration that graces every note and chord on "From the Light." While frequently Americana in sound, Kate's world music influences can be heard on a number of compositions, including "Nos," a duet with the award-winning, Spanish recording artist Xoan Curiel. Here, Kate's delightful, intoxicating jazz vocals present a stylistic range that roams quite far from the predominantly country and acoustic textures of many of the album's other tracks. World music influences on "From the Light" can also be heard in the gypsy jazz adventure that is "The Plane Song," the bossa nova-inflected "Almeria's Wind," and the picturesque Spanish serenade "Bilbao."
However, it is on the lushly orchestrated blues ballad about pain and transcendence, "Roberta Blue," where Kate reveals an emotional depth and power that is as unexpected as it is profound. Not surprisingly, it is also the song that is most personal to the artist.
The intuitive vocal style and sensuous phrasing that Kate delivers across genres have their roots in classic jazz, in which Kate immersed herself early in her career while associated with the Monterey Jazz Festival. More recently, Kate toured Europe where she performed with Jody's Jukejoint, a blues band, at both large festivals and small intimate venues.
Kate Targan will embark on a promotional tour of Europe, including dates in Spain, Germany, Poland and Romania, before she returns to perform in the States, in early 2014.
