Kashif originally signed with Arista Records as a solo artist in 1980, climbing the R&B music charts with hits like "I Just Got to Have You," "Lover Turn Me On," "Stone Love," "Help Yourself to My Love," and the Grammy-nominated instrumental, "The Mood." In 1983, his second album, Send Me Your Love, resulted in two more Grammy nominations for "Edgartown Groove," featuring Al Jarreau, and the instrumental hit, "Call Me Tonight." In 1985, Kashif received a fourth Grammy nomination for yet another instrumental entitled, "The Movie Song." He also wrote and produced "Inside Love" for his musical idol, George Benson.

It was also in 1985 that Kashif met and launched the career of then-unknown Kenny G with the electrifying, "Hi How Ya Doin" and "Nighttime in Tribeca." The same year, Kashif collaborated with a newcomer named Whitney Houston, resulting in the smash hit "You Give Good Love," which instantly sent her career into the stratosphere. Kashif also produced and was Houston's duet partner on "Thinking About You," a track from Houston's first album which became the top-selling debut album of all time by a female artist. Kashif also produced "Where You Are" on Houston's second album, Whitney, which sold 15 million copies.

In 2004, Kashif was inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame as a "Living Legend." He is recognized as a brilliant musical talent who continues to have a major impact on the recording industry. Kashif resides in Maui, Hawaii, where he plans to help provide educational and arts programming for youth and those interested in the music and entertainment industries. In addition, he is currently directing and producing a 10-part documentary film series entitled, The History of R&B Music and Its Influence on World Culture. The artist intends to use part of the proceeds from the royalty auction to help develop educational programs and to finalize production and secure worldwide distribution for the documentary.
