OAKLAND, Calif., April 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sunday, April 7, 2013, the 11(th) Annual Oakland International Film Festival will premiere the documentary short film, "Our Journey", which chronicles the Pink Access Foundation's swim team's preparation and participation in the 2012 Swim-A-Mile for Women with Cancer fundraiser at Mills College in Oakland. The film will showcase at the New Parkway Theater during the Sunday night block starting at nine o'clock.
The documentary was the brainchild of executive producer, Shonda Scott, who, after participating in the previous charity swims by herself to honor her deceased cousin, decided to assemble a team of volunteers to join her to raise money and awareness for women affected by cancer, thus Team PinkAccess was born. The film follows the team as they meet for the first time to hear inspiring stories from cancer survivors at the Women's Cancer Resource Center in Oakland to the festivities and excitement of the actual swim event. Prominent Bay Area television news anchor, Frank Sommerville and his wife, television producer, Donna, showed their support by being Team PinkAccess' honorary head coaches.
"One of the purposes of the OIFF is to showcase projects like "Our Journey", filmed in Oakland, by Oakland natives, bringing wider exposure to a great Oakland event." - David Roach, Founder/Executive Director, OIFF
"Our Journey" was written and produced by Shonda and Kente Scott, through their production company, Legacy Film & Entertainment, in conjunction with H.I.T.M. Entertainment, headed by the film's director, Ramasses Head. The Oakland International Film Festival starts on Thursday, April 4 and runs through Sunday, April 7 at several theaters throughout the city.
