Comcast Cable Lends a Helping Hand to Michigan-Based Community Groups as Part of 12th Comcast Cares Day

American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity among partner organizations benefitting from nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer event

PLYMOUTH, Mich., April 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Throughout the week of April 22 and culminating on Saturday, April 27, approximately 3,000 local Comcast Cable employees, their families and friends will "make change happen" as they lend a hand at several community organizations to commemorate the company's 12(th) Comcast Cares Day.

"We're honored to partner with so many great Michigan organizations on a variety of projects to improve our community during our 12(th) Comcast Cares Day," said Tim Collins, Regional Senior Vice President for Comcast Cable. "The hard work of the volunteers who will be donating their time to help make such a big difference in the lives of others is inspiring, and I am thankful to all of our participants who are helping to make Comcast Cares Day a success."

Comcast Cares Day is the nation's largest single-day corporate volunteer effort, and Comcast Cable's and NBCUniversal's signature day of service. This year, more than 70,000 Comcast volunteers are expected to participate in over 600 projects across the country. And, for the first time, Comcast's volunteer efforts will expand internationally with NBCUniversal sponsoring various project events in London, England. Comcast also expects to achieve another important milestone of three million volunteer hours and half a million volunteers since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.

Monday, April 22


-- American Red Cross (Plymouth) - blood drive at Comcast Plymouth Call
Center
-- Thumb Industries (Bad Axe) - recycling project in conjunction with Earth
Day
-- Greater Lansing Food Bank (Lansing) - landscaping project in conjunction
with Earth Day
-- Stiggy's Dogs (Howell) - cleanup projects in conjunction with Earth Day
and no-sew blankets for dogs and veterans
Tuesday, April 23


-- American Red Cross (Ann Arbor) - blood drive at Comcast Ann Arbor Call
Center
-- Big Brothers Big Sisters (Southfield) - food packaging that will be
donated to Forgotten Harvest Food Bank and children around the world
Saturday, April 27


-- Kids Against Hunger (Ann Arbor, Plymouth and Sterling Heights) - food
packaging at multiple Comcast facilities that will be donated locally to
the Food Gatherers Food Bank in Ann Arbor, Gleaners of Macomb County and
Plymouth United Way, as well as children around the world
-- Food Bank of South Central Michigan (Battle Creek) - sort and pack food
items
-- Matrix Human Services Literacy Project (Detroit) - Clark Park literacy
event for hundreds of residents
-- Motor City Blight Busters (Detroit) - community cleanup, urban garden
planting and mural painting
-- Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint (Flint) - outdoor cleanup, gardening
and food distribution for local families
-- Hispanic Center of Western Michigan /Feeding America West Michigan Food
Bank (Grand Rapids) - sort, pack and distribute food to local residents,
assemble personal care items, and do cleanup and painting projects
-- Starfish Family Services (Inkster) - outdoor cleanup, gardening and
landscaping
-- MLK Community Center (Jackson) - sort and pack food items for Food Bank
of South Central Michigan
-- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monroe County (Monroe) - indoor and outdoor
cleanup at Arthur Leslow Community Center
-- Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity (Muskegon) - exterior painting of
Muskegon Habitat Restore building
-- Hope Center (Macomb) / The Woods (Warren) - community gardens will be
built and planted
-- Gleaners Food Bank of Southeast Michigan (Warren) - sort and pack food
for local food bank
