CNN Latino Continues To Expand In Key Markets
New Affiliation Agreement in New York, Orlando, Tampa and Phoenix Expand the Programming Block's Reach
ATLANTA, April 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CNN Latino, the Spanish-language programming block custom-made for the U.S. Hispanic market, is expanding to New York, Orlando, Tampa and Phoenix, it was announced today by Cynthia Hudson, senior vice president and general manager of CNN en Espanol and Hispanic Strategy for CNN/U.S. With the addition of these four new markets to its existing presence in Los Angeles, CNN Latino programming will now be available in markets that represent about a quarter of U.S. Hispanic Households.
CNN Latino's broad spectrum of programming covering news, lifestyle, documentary, talk and debate represents an alternative to traditional Hispanic networks, and it will now be available on WBQM Channel 3 in New York, New York; WATV Channel 47 in Orlando, Florida; WTAM Channel 30 in Tampa, Florida; and Channel 44 in Phoenix, Arizona. As part of its expansion plan, CNN Latino has partnered with TMA-TIG, LLC to develop alliances with key Hispanic television stations in east coast markets and CNN Latino has partnered with Lotus Communications to develop its alliance with Channel 44 in Phoenix.
CNN Latino in New York WBQM-LD Channel 3
CNN Latino signed with WBQM-LD Channel 3, a low-power television station in New York. The New York market is the second-largest Hispanic market with 1,360,660 Hispanic TV households that account for 18.4 % of total households. The joint venture will allow Channel 3, owned by TMA-TIG, to carry the CNN Latino eight-hour programming block from 3-11 p.m. (ET), as well as its current mix of local production and programming from Latin American partners, including shows from ColorVision Channel 9 in the Dominican Republic, Jorge Baron Television in Colombia and RBC Television in Peru, currently packaged under the BuenaVision brand which provides family-oriented entertainment content. Channel 3 will have carriage on some cable systems by the end of 2013.
CNN Latino in Orlando WATV Channel 47 and Tampa Channel 30
In Orlando, CNN Latino will be carried on WATV-LV Channel 47, a low power station owned by SIMA Communications of Tampa LLC, and covers the area of Orlando, Kissimmee, Sanford and Poinciana. SIMA partners are also part of the TMA-TIG joint venture. Orlando is ranked 17th among Hispanic TV markets and has over 232,000 Hispanic TV households. Channel 47 will also have carriage on various cable systems, including Verizon, AT&T U-Verse, Century Link, and Summit Broadband by April 2013 and with Bright House by October 2013. CNN Latino programming will broadcast from 3-11 p.m. (ET), as well as local station programming and other BuenaVision content.
In Tampa, CNN Latino will be carried on WTAM Chanel 30, a low power station owned by SIMA Communications of Tampa LLC, and covers the area of Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Bradenton, Sarasota, Zephyrhills, Brandon and Riverview. Tampa is ranked 19th among Hispanic TV markets and has over 220,000 Hispanic TV households. Channel 30 will also have carriage on Verizon by April 2013, and on BrightHouse cable by October 2013. CNN Latino programming will broadcast from 3-11 p.m. (ET), as well as local station programming and other BuenaVision content.
CNN Latino in Phoenix Channel 44
CNN Latino's partnership with TV44 KPHE-LP, a low power station owned by Lotus Communications Corp., one of the largest privately owned radio station groups in the U.S., will allow Hispanics in the Phoenix area to watch the CNN Latino block of programming from 3-11 p.m. (PT). The station covers the area of Phoenix, which is ranked 9th among Hispanic TV markets and has over 356,590 Hispanic TV households. Channel 44 has cable carriage on Cox channel 405.
Preceding CNN Latino's programs, TV44 KPHE-LP Channel 44 will continue to produce information, community, entertainment and sports programs.
All the affiliated stations will transmit CNN Latino programming, including Sin Limites con Elizabeth Espinosa, Panorama USA, Cala, Magazine CNN, Archivo CNN, Nuestro Mundo, Cruzando Fronteras, Showbiz Latino, Contrastes, Dra. Azaret, Deportes USA and other original content for the U.S. Hispanic broadcast market.
