Driven by the vision of "Art for All," The Sing for Hope Pianos project selects artists from across the city to customize their own unique piano, which will be part of a public art installation designed to make music accessible to the community. 88 pianos, representing the 88 keys on a keyboard, will be placed throughout the five boroughs of New York City from June 1(st)-16(th) so that professional and amateur musicians alike can take turns making music. After the installation closes, the pianos will be presented to under-served schools, hospitals and other local organizations, enriching our local City communities through art for years to come.
"We're thrilled that The Sing for Hope Pianos will return this year," said Camille Zamora and Monica Yunus, star sopranos and Co-Founders of Sing for Hope. "These individually created piano masterpieces, combined with the sounds of everyday pianists, will once again fill our great city with a cultural experience unlike any other. Following the installation, these pianos are donated to local organizations and continue to bring the arts to the communities where they find their new homes."
"As two entrepreneurial organizations united by a mission to provide equal access to everyone - whether it's music or genuine food products - Chobani is proud to support Sing for Hope," said Hamdi Ulukaya, president, CEO and founder of Chobani. "Through funding this inventive program and as members of the New York community, we are honored to be a part in deepening the role New York City plays as a thought leader in music and the arts."
Artists whom have previously donated their time and talent customizing a Sing for Hope Piano include fashion designers Isaac Mizrahi and Diane Von Furstenberg, visual artists Julian Schnabel and Scott Taylor, as well as students from New York Academy of Art. Sing for Hope Pianos is currently accepting applications for artists who would like to participate this year.
