Morgan Spurlock's New Documentary Series Inside Man Will Examine The Conflict Between Federal and State Medical Marijuana Laws and Explore the Case of California's Matt Davies

Davies, a 34 Year-Old Father, Operated A Non-Profit Medical Marijuana Dispensary In Accordance With California Law and Now Faces Years in Prison After Being Criminally Targeted By the Obama Administration After the President Indicated He Would Not Be Prosecuting Such Cases Following Votes in Colorado and Washington

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A new CNN documentary series hosted by acclaimed filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me, 30 Days) will delve into the conflicting federal and state medical marijuana laws in the United States that are leaving citizens like 34 year-old Matthew Davies of California stuck in very serious legal situations for involvement in medical marijuana operations that are legal in their home state. Davies, of Stockton California, is a father of two young daughters with no criminal record who is being threatened by the federal government with 10 years to life in prison for providing medical marijuana to patients, which is legal under California law.

Davies, whose small business was permitted and complied with state laws and regulations, paid more than $300,000 in taxes to the cities of Stockton and Sacramento, the State of California, and the federal government. Yet, in spite of President Obama's recent statement that the government has "bigger fish to fry" and the Department of Justice policy of avoiding spending limited resources on prosecuting medical marijuana users, U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner is threatening Davies with life in prison.

18 states currently have laws allowing medical marijuana use, and many citizens are calling for an explanation from the Department of Justice and the Obama Administration for what their policy is with regard to medical marijuana in states where it is legal. Citizens of Colorado and Washington, where voters approved the recreational use of marijuana, need to know if the federal government will respect the will of the citizens in their states, or if the federal government's policy is going to be to use its limited resources to put people who are complying with existing state laws in jail.
