Finalists Named for Western Washington's Cox Conserves Heroes Program, Public Asked to Vote

$15,000 to be donated to local environmental nonprofits

SEATTLE, June 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --KIRO 7, in partnership with The Trust for Public Land (TPL), today announced the finalists for Western Washington's fourth annual Cox Conserves Heroes program. A total of $15,000 will be donated to local environmental nonprofits on behalf of the finalists.

By being a finalist, each individual has secured a $2,500 donation for his or her nonprofit of choice. The finalists are now competing for an additional $7,500 - bringing the total donation on behalf of the winner to $10,000. The winner will be chosen through an online public vote.

The public is being asked to vote now through July 16. To vote, visit kirotv.com/heroes.

Western Washington's Cox Conserves Hero will be announced in late July.

This is the fourth year the Cox Conserves Heroes program has run in Western Washington. Jan Holmes, Gary Colley and Mike Town are previous recipients of Western Washington's Cox Conserves Heroes award.

The Cox Conserves Heroes program was created through a partnership between TPL and Cox Enterprises, the parent company of KIRO 7, to honor everyday conservationists. The program also runs in Arizona, Atlanta, San Francisco, Southern California and Virginia. More than $200,000 has been donated to local nonprofits through the Cox Conserves Heroes program.
