'Baseball, Dennis & The French' Director Hospitalized the Night of Phoenix Premiere

'Baseball, Dennis & The French' Director Hospitalized the Night of Phoenix Premiere

Unique conservative faith-based film opens April 6, 2012 in Dallas, and its filmmaker hopes to recover in time to attend

DALLAS and PHOENIX, March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In a darkened theater in Phoenix, Paul Croshaw's independent film Baseball, Dennis & The French premiered to a local audience that included the film's star, talk show host Dennis Prager. Conspicuously absent was Croshaw, the film's director and producer, who just hours earlier was airlifted from a remote town in the California desert to an emergency room in Phoenix to determine why he had suddenly lost the ability to walk.

Unaware of the struggle going on in the hospital across town, the audience was thoroughly immersed in Croshaw's Baseball, Dennis & The French, a film that may be judged as the best political biography to appear since David Horowitz's Radical Son. Additionally, it must be praised for its particular courage in putting onto celluloid the grand themes that have been deemed "radioactive" to the mindset of an increasingly secular film Industry. What begins as a young boy's desire for acceptance (and a flirtation with divine providence) soon opens up as a robust inquiry into the roots of our American Founding, our Cultural and Political Exceptionalism, and a thoughtful exploration of Judeo-Christian values.

Interviews with Dennis Prager are the core of the film, and that it remains entertaining for the full 90 minutes is a tribute to the talk show host's amiable eloquence and Croshaw's inventive visuals. Indeed, Mr. Prager's inspiring and honest persuasiveness anchors the film's expansive worldview and primal thesis: That American greatness is intrinsically linked to its goodness, and the foundation of its goodness is Judeo-Christian ethical monotheism.

Baseball, Dennis & The French has given religious Americans a poetic and convincing vehicle to transmit the rationality and gravity of their values to both the secular and to our youth, who are increasingly becoming ethical blank slates. Viewers fortunate enough to have caught Mr. Croshaw's film agree that he has achieved an emotional and philosophical tour de force -- the equivalent of a Conservative Grand Slam.

With credits rolling, a fully engaged audience clapped in unison as Prager unveiled his musical talents on the accordion. After the final note, the appreciative Arizona crowd erupted in a standing ovation that lasted several minutes. Somehow it was fitting that Croshaw was not in attendance. After all, this film took seven years to produce during an economic crisis, and with a hostile Hollywood environment erecting roadblock after roadblock. This night would be equally difficult for Croshaw to endure in a Phoenix hospital.

Mr. Croshaw's medical examinations have revealed that he suffered a rare type of stroke, but with intense physical therapy, he should completely recover. As the film travels from city to city and is introduced to theatergoers across the country, this filmmaker now has a new goal: To be able to stand alongside others as his film receives another standing ovation.

Baseball, Dennis & The French opens at select AMC Theatres in Dallas on April 6, 2012
