UNION CITY, Ind., Sept. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- When the $326 million Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts held its grand opening weekend Sept. 16-18 in downtown Kansas City, Mo., it featured a special guest appearance by virtuoso violinist Itzhak Perlman accompanied by the Kansas City Symphony.

Perlman and the Symphony performed in Helzberg Hall, the new home of the Kansas City Symphony and one of the Kauffman Center's two venues, with a concert showcasing the acoustics of the new hall. Designed by internationally renowned architecture firm Safdie Architects, the 1,600-seat Helzberg Hall features a stunning floor to ceiling aesthetic featuring a variety of North American hardwoods.

Supplied by Frank Miller Lumber, the flooring in Helzberg Hall was constructed and installed from more than 20,000 square feet of 3" red oak by Acme Floor Co., Inc.

"Acme is privileged to be a part of such a special building for the Kansas City area. We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with Safdie Architects and the Kauffman Center to create this special space," said Bob Kenney II, President and Owner, Acme Floor Company.

"We are honored Frank Miller was chosen to supply the hardwoods for Helzberg Hall in the architecturally significant Kauffman Center," said Dan Hackett, President, Frank Miller. "The unique grain patterns, incomparable strength and timeless beauty are just a few of the reasons hardwoods in general, and quartersawn hardwoods in particular, are being recommended increasingly by architects of significant building projects around the globe."

In addition to the Kauffman Center, Frank Miller has supplied the quartersawn white oak used for the Barnes Collection Museum in Philadelphia, some of the quartersawn hardwoods used in the restoration of San Francisco's City Hall and in the flooring at Benaroya Hall, the new home of the Seattle Symphony.
