Named one of America's "coolest film festivals," the Disposable Film Festival hosts events around the world to showcase filmmaking using accessible, non-professional equipment such as cell phone cameras. Practice Fusion is the fastest growing Electronic Medical Record (EMR) community in the US and is recognized as a force for disruptive innovation and creativity in the medical sector. Both organizations are headquartered in San Francisco.
"Since our first festival in 2007, the Disposable Film Festival's mission has been to promote accessibility and the democratization of filmmaking," said Carlton Evans, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Disposable Film Festival. "Practice Fusion shares our passion for democratizing technology and the ways that access to new tools can change lives. Together, the Disposable Film Festival Health provides an exciting opportunity for people to visually tell and share health stories."
The create-a-thon event will bring together filmmakers, health advocates and the creative community to brainstorm and form teams in order to produce short films focused on the health industry. Create-a-thon participants and filmmakers everywhere are invited to submit films for the Disposable Film Festival Health before October 24, 2011.
"Health is an edgy and emotional theme in America," said Ryan Howard, CEO and Founder of Practice Fusion. "Practice Fusion wants filmmakers, artists, designers and advocates to have a voice in the healthcare sector through this film festival, the same way that we involve the tech community through code-a-thons. The Disposable Film Festival is the perfect partner to help us take community creativity further than we ever have before."
Film submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges including Ryan Howard from Practice Fusion, Carlton Evans, Eric Slatkin, Katie Gillum, from The Disposable Film Festival, patient rights arts advocate Regina Holliday and Sundance selected, award-winning editor and filmmaker Dalan McNabola. The judges will be looking for originality within the format of disposable filmmaking and thought-provoking stories about any health theme including patient experience, wellness, medical providers and the current health technology transformation. Winners will be notified on November 1.
The top awarded film and finalists will be screened at a VIP event in advance of Practice Fusion Connect 2011 and during the free health technology conference on November 11.
