14th Annual Musical Tribute to John Denver October 14 & 15 at The Wheeler Opera House

This Year's Event To Benefit Guitarist Pete Huttlinger

ASPEN, Colo., Sept. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Tickets are on sale now for the 14th Annual Tribute to John Denver. The annual concert takes place on Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15 at Aspen's historic Wheeler Opera House. The show is presented by Mark Johnson/Strut Productions. "As John's music is revered around the world, it is an honor to do our part to keep it alive and presented in his adopted home town," comments Johnson.

This tribute to Denver has become one of the most popular annual events at The Wheeler Opera House. This year's concert will continue the tradition of family, fans and friends all celebrating the life of this beloved songwriter and performer.

After Denver's death in 1997, a number of his friends, members of several incarnations of his bands over the years, and family gathered in Aspen for his memorial service. Later that evening the instruments started coming out of cases and voices were raised singing some of Denver's songs. Someone in the circle suggested that the show should "go on the road." The following year they reunited to do the First Annual Musical Tribute to John Denver. The concert always falls near the anniversary of Denver's death which was October 12, 1997. Fans attend from all over the USA, and from Japan, Australia, New Zealand, England, and Germany and many other countries. Denver's mother, Erma Deutschendorf, attended every show up until her death in 2010.

The performers are former members of Denver's band as well as close friends and special guests who have a musical connection to the world renowned singer, songwriter and humanitarian. This year's performers include Herb Pedersen, Jim Horn, Gary Mule Deer, Bill Danoff, Richie Gajate-Garcia, Chris Nole, Mack Bailey, Alan Deremo, Denny Brooks, Jim Curry, Mollie Weaver, Kenn Roberts, and returning after a long hiatus Steve Weisberg.

Missing in this year's lineup is guitarist Pete Huttlinger. Huttlinger toured with Denver the last several years of Denver's life. He is battling a critical congenital heart issue and is awaiting a heart transplant. Any profits from this year's show will go to helping with Huttlinger's medical bills.

Tickets may be purchased at the Wheeler box office, online at www.aspenshowtix.com or by phone at 970-920-5770 or toll free at 1-866-449-0464.
