T.J. Martell Foundation Honors Music Executives Mike Knobloch, Randy Spendlove at Third Annual Family Day Los Angeles Event

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The T.J. Martell Foundation will host its Third Annual Family Day L.A. on September 18, 2011 at the CBS Back Lot Studios in Studio City, CA.

The T.J. Martell Foundation Family Day serves as a way to bring children and families together for a day filled with music, celebrity, fun and games at an event that raises money towards groundbreaking medical research. Family Day is celebrated in all T.J. Martell Foundation locations, and is one of the Foundation's most successful annual events. Since its inception in 1998, Family Day fundraising efforts have raised more than $3.5 million.

During the Los Angeles Family Day event, the T.J. Martell Foundation's Humanitarian Award will be presented to Mike Knobloch, President of Film Music and Publishing at Universal Pictures, and Randy Spendlove, President of Motion Picture Music at Paramount Pictures. The Humanitarian Award is presented to individuals who dedicate time and energy to philanthropic endeavors within the entertainment industry and community at large.

Mike Knobloch joined Universal as President, Film Music and Publishing for Universal Pictures in March 2010. Having served over two decades overseeing music for film, Knobloch is a seasoned veteran in his field. His work includes overseeing the musical scores for the highest grossing film of all time, Avatar, the Academy Award winning Titanic and Universal's highest grossing film of its billion-dollar franchise Fast Five.

Since he has been at Universal, Knobloch has worked on hit films including Bridesmaids, Hop and Despicable Me. He and his team are currently working on the scores for upcoming films such as Tower Heist, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, Battleship and Snow White and the Huntsman.

Before he came to Universal, Knobloch served as Executive Vice President at Fox Music for 13 years. While at Fox he also supervised music on dozens of films including the Grammy Award winning Walk The Line, both soundtracks for the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise, The Devil Wears Prada, Drumline and Marley & Me.

Knobloch recently completed his term as President of The Recording Academy's Los Angeles Chapter and now serves on The Recording Academy's National Board of Trustees. He is an active supporter of The Academy's GRAMMY U initiative and other mentoring programs such as National GRAMMY Career Day and has hosted various film screenings and panel discussions. In 2005, he founded the film-scoring curriculum of the GRAMMY Foundation's GRAMMY Camp -- a summer program that immerses high school students in professional film scoring, among other disciplines of the music industry.

Knobloch is an active alumnus of Northwestern University and a member of the NU Dean's Advisory Committee. He is a host and advocate for the school's internship program. Born and raised in New York, he lives in Los Angeles with his wife and children.

As President of Motion Picture Music, record producer and Grammy Award winner Randy Spendlove oversees all aspects of music for Paramount Pictures films. He supervised the music and co-produced the soundtrack album for Dreamgirls, which was nominated for three Best Song Academy Awards and sold over 2.5 million copies. Following the success of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and Super 8, he is currently working on music for Footloose,Mission Impossible --Ghost Protocol, and an upcoming David Chase project.

Previously, as President of Motion Picture Music at Miramax, Spendlove was instrumental in the success of the film and soundtrack of Chicago. He won a 2004 Grammy, and the soundtrack sold over 3 million copies worldwide. His work on Cold Mountain received three 2005 Grammy nominations, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button earned Oscar Nominations for Best Score and Best Song. His summer 2009 film, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, had original song "New Divide" by Linkin Park, which reached platinum status this year, selling over 1 million copies. He is also an accomplished musician, playing several instruments and even played guitar on the Dreamgirls soundtrack.

A devoted husband and father of two young children, Spendlove is an At-Large Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the Recording Academy and is deeply involved with the Society of Young Composers, where he devotes considerable time to mentoring emerging composers and musicians. Spendlove also often gives lectures at both UCLA and USC on the subjects of music and film music.
