McCormick® Takes Passion for Grilling on the Road With Asando Sabroso Tour - a Celebration of Summer Flavors
Tour will roll along the Southwest making stops at top retailers and serving up special recipe grilled tacos to benefit the next generation of Latino culinary professionals
SAN ANTONIO, Texas, May 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Paying homage to the flavor innovations from food trucks around the country, McCormick is bringing its signature Asando Sabroso tour to San Antonio to share grilling inspiration for the season. The Asando Sabroso food truck will offer product samples, flavor ideas and special recipe tacos for a minimum $1 donation to help Latino students pursue their passion for cooking in culinary school. McCormick will match all funds collected to provide scholarships.
The Asando Sabroso tour will start in San Antonio on May 5, and will serve a menu of two great grilled tacos--a Carne Asada Taco seasoned with Grill Mates® Montreal Steak® Seasoning, and a Chipotle Chicken Taco, with cumin and garlic, during every festive stop. With live radio broadcasting and giveaways, the tour will turn each store's parking lot into a grilling fest.
"Latinos have a passion for great food and great company, and the grilling season is perfect for trying new delightful flavors. The tour brings a taste of the latest flavors and recipes for everyone to experience. In addition, we want to raise awareness and inspire the next generation of talented culinary professionals to harness that passion and pursue their dreams in the food industry," said Valentin Ramirez, vice president/managing director of Hispanic consumer markets for McCormick.
During 26 sizzling stops throughout San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, the truck will be promoting educational opportunities for aspiring Latino chefs with the help from Chef Johnny Hernandez-- a rising food star and successful restaurateur from San Antonio who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA)-the premier cooking school in the world.
The Asando Sabroso tour will kick off on Cinco de Mayo from Chef Hernandez's restaurant, La Gloria Restaurant at the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio--his hometown and also the home city for the CIA's San Antonio campus. Hernandez also is partnering with McCormick on Latino-inspired food trends for the tour and the season.
"So many Latino restaurant owners have started out with big dreams of making it in the food business, and we want to inspire more in our community to pursue them through the power of education--I am honored to help more Latinos get a head start at the CIA," says Hernandez.
