MIAMI, Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Well-known Uruguayan journalist, Pedro Sevcec, will join America TeVe, with a program that will be launched soon on Channel 41, the number one independent station in South Florida.

The seasoned journalist and news presenter, who recently celebrated his 30 years in television, will soon provide more details of his new program. "I am very excited about returning to television and to host a program aimed to the Miami market," said Sevcec after closing the deal. "Is really stimulating, as this is the city that has followed my career as a journalist for nearly 30 years and knows very well what I have done in the fields of journalism and television," added Sevcec.

"To have Pedro, as part of our staff is a privilege for our TV station," said Omar Romay, President and CEO of America TeVe. "Sevcec excels in everything he does by being passionate and professional, in addition his direct and colloquial style makes him one of the best interviewers of Hispanic television in the United States," added Romay.

Before starting his new show Sevcec will be on air, covering for Oscar Haza, another renowned journalist from America TeVe. The host of "A Mano Limpia" is in full recovery from a heart surgery that was performed recently with favorable results, but requires several weeks of rest as part of his recovery. "I welcome Pedro to the Station by asking him to work covering for me," joked Haza, who for many years worked with Sevcec in SIN.

Sevcec, who has won several Emmy Awards®, began his career in his native Uruguay in 1976 working for several newspapers, radio and television stations, as a reporter and sports commentator. In the United States he began as a reporter and correspondent covering American affairs for SIN (Spanish International Network), in addition to being the founder and news director of Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation (HBC). In 1986, Sevcec joined Telemundo as a reporter, host and news director. It was here where he also worked as a reporter for "Ocurrio Así" in 1993, winning an Emmy Award® for his successful news coverage.

The following year, he became the host of the hit talk show "Sevcec", making him the first male host in a talk show in Spanish-language television. The show aired more than 1,200 episodes and won 7 Emmy Awards®. Until a year ago Sevcec was anchor and managing editor of the national newscast on Telemundo Network.

Throughout his career, this award-winning journalist has interviewed numerous presidents and famous world leaders. He has also covered major news events worldwide, including the invasion of Panama, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the wars in Nicaragua and El Salvador, the attacks of September 11 and the war in Iraq, among others. Many viewers still remember his meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev, the leader of the former Soviet Union, U.S. President George W. Bush and Vicente Fox of Mexico, among other important figures in world politics. His presence on battlefields, and in particular the bomb that exploded near him and his crew in Iraq, is well remembered by his TV followers.

In print media, Sevcec worked as director of the local news section for "El Nuevo Herald" in Miami, where he was part of the team that worked on the coverage of Hurricane Andrew and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
