Justice Through Music and Op-Critical Release Hard Hitting Music Video on the Dangers of Hydrofracking

Call for an End to Fracking Pollution

WASHINGTON, Jan. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Friday, the non profit organization Justice Through Music, www.jtmp.org, joined again with the band Op-Critical in a release of a new music video called "Freakin Frackin," about the extreme environmental damage caused by hydrofracking. It is posted on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-2HH5gZGkQ. Fracking is the process of drilling into shale beds, injecting massive amounts of dangerous and poisonous chemicals, and breaking the shale to release natural gas deposits. These chemicals, hundreds of them, have been causing massive pollution of drinking water, gas releases into people's sinks, and poisons into streams and rivers. Plants, animals and humans have been injured and killed as a result.

Citizens around the country have begun opposing fracking, and politicians in New York recently issued a moratorium on fracking there. A documentary called "Gasland" has demonstrated to millions of viewers the risks of fracking, and the EPA has demanded answers and transparency from the oil companies.

"We felt like it was important to write a song and release a video about the dangers of fracking to support Gasland and educate young people around the country about this issue," said Op-Critical's Storm. "The oil companies have done a good job of hiding these dangers until recently, and spent a lot of money buying off and deceiving vulnerable people for use of their land. But now, those people are fighting back after getting sick, losing property value and watching their farms die off. We want to give them support so that politicians will revoke the immunity of the oil companies that have, once again, polluted the environment. It's time to end fracking and put the health of people and the environment over the profits of Big Oil."

Gasland producer Josh Fox gave Justice Through Music permission to use clips from the film, and Storm was filmed playing a guitar while wearing a military grade gasmask. A young girl sang the bridge, asking politicians and her father to protect her from the fracking pollution.

Justice Through Music is a non profit charity that works with famous bands to inspire young people to get involved with social causes. The organization has worked with Op-Critical on a number of music videos focusing on Darfur, Torture, Nuclear Weapons, Endless War, Propaganda, and Arlington Cemetery.
