7-57 Releasing's 'La Soga' Lands at Screen Media
NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- 7-57 Releasing announced today that after receiving multiple offers for their Dominican hit "La Soga" at the American Film Market (AFM), they struck a deal to partner with Screen Media Films for North American ancillary rights - the deal, brokered by Ryan Kampe of Visit Films, includes a six-figure advance.
"La Soga" premiered to standing ovations at the Toronto International Film Festival in '09 and won a slew of awards on the festival circuit, most recently Best Film at Oaxaca in Mexico. The film was directed by Josh Crook and stars Manny Perez, Denise Quinones, and Juan Fernandez.
7-57 Releasing and Michael Bassick's Markedia Worldwide released "La Soga" theatrically in August 2010 in New York City and simultaneously nationwide in the Dominican Republic with partner Antena Latina Films. "La Soga" hit the 1 million dollar worldwide box office mark and will continue rolling out to select cities in the U.S. through the beginning of 2011.
True to the company's mission, 7-57 Releasing acquired the world rights to "La Soga" and implemented a targeted theatrical release. "Since we had a strong theatrical run in the U.S. and the Dominican Republic, we wanted an ancillary partner with proven results and transparent accounting," said 7-57 Releasing's Managing Partner, Patrick Morris. "Robert Baruc and the team at Screen Media provide just that."
Given the success of the film in the U.S. market and beyond, Visit Films will be presenting "La Soga" to international buyers and expects it to be a hot title going into Ventana Sur in Buenos Aires this December.
"We partnered with Screen Media on the release of 'The Cake Eaters' starring Kristen Stewart and we were very pleased with their results," said 7-57 Releasing's Managing Partner, Jesse Scolaro. "We look forward to replicating that again with a film that appeals to genre fans and a strong Latino audience."
